Situation

We had built a successful non-executive search partnership with a listed industrial company with a market capitalisation of over €50 billion. This business was spinning out one of its divisions to create a separate listed entity via an IPO. We were tasked with helping to build the board of the spin-out, to ensure it had the right domain and leadership expertise. We focused on finding mining or natural resources expertise, combined with digital technology and automation experience. Diversity was a consideration in the search.

Approach

We conducted a global search, utilising our extensive network. We built a list of qualified candidates from APAC, Europe, and the Americas. We leveraged our existing relationship to ensure that candidates’ relevant experience was complemented with a strong culture fit. The client wanted to create a board culture of inclusion, openness, and development that was ego-free.

Impact

From a strong shortlist of candidates, our client made two appointments – one based in the USA, and one based in the Nordics.  Both appointees were female.
